STEP 2
Upon a suitable match, our technical service officers will get in touch with you.
This communication may come in the form of emails, phone calls or text messages.
A video call interview will be conducted. To qualify as a tutor, every candidate will be assessed against the role or tutoring subject, he/she has applied for. There are two rounds of interviews:
- Behavioural interview
- Technical interview
STEP 3
Once the first round (behavioural) interview is completed. Assessment will be conducted by our technical officers, and assessment will be judged based on the criteria below:
- Availability
- Suitability

Student briefs will be shared with the potential candidates. See the example student brief template here.*
*Student Briefs — a form of communication to share student background, school or university and specific challenges faced and/ or highlighted by our students.
STEP 4
Upon acceptance of the sent student brief, a technical interview will be scheduled.
The new candidates will be tested based on questions shared via the student brief. This scenario is similar to a mock tutorial lesson - with our technical officers sitting in as a student.
The technical interview may be conducted over the phone, via video call or in person.
STEP 5
Once the technical interview is completed and passed by the candidate. Intro email, containing student details, will be shared with the candidate.
See the example intro email template here.*
New candidates will study the template and proceed with a trial lesson* as part of onboarding.
Post-trial, both students and tutors will be asked to provide feedback.

*Intro Emails — an exchange of student contact details with the tutor. A template email for an introduction to be done by the tutor to our students. Introduction emails normally lead to placeholder discussion on scheduling details.

How do I get paid? and how frequently do I get paid?
Every tutoring hour you conduct will be recorded in our system. At Tutor Lim, payroll is released every fortnight. At the start of the week, after the closure of the previous fortnight. Timesheet closure usually happens on Wednesday/ Thursday. Tutors will get paid on the following Monday/ Tuesday.
What type of employment am I under?
It varies for all tutors. By default, you will be engaged under casual employment. Under casual employment, all tutors are classified as 'independent contractors' rather than 'employees'. For part-time or full-time employment, information will be shared during onboarding and tutors will be advised accordingly by our staff members. Employment type depends on how active you are within the organisation.
If I am put on trial, do I still get paid for my first lesson?
Yes! As long as you passed your trial session, the hours conducted will be included in the first time payroll.
How do I qualify as a tutor?
To qualify as a tutor, you will have to go through all onboarding steps.
What if I fail my first trial lesson?
