Learn what to do when your online lesson has technical issues.
Even with a solid technical setup, technical issues may arise during your online teaching session. Here are some common issues and how to troubleshoot them:
💡 If you're experiencing issues, always try reloading the page first, as this commonly resolves the problem.
Audio and Video Issues
- If you are experiencing audio or video issues, check if your microphone and webcam are plugged in, enabled, and configured correctly. You can also try adjusting your camera or microphone settings.
- If the issue persists, try using a different device or using headphones or earphones to reduce background noise.
- Unplug and plug your external microphone or camera.
- Test your microphone and speakers in the online classroom you are using.
Connectivity Issues
- If your internet connection is slow or drops, try restarting your router or modem.
- If the issue persists, try using a wired connection or moving closer to your router.
- Consider closing any unnecessary application windows, such as too many browser tabs or other software not needed for the lesson.
Platform or Software Issues
- If the online classroom software freezes or crashes, try closing and reopening the program or restarting your device.
- If the issue persists, check the online classroom's helpdesk or contact their support team for assistance.
In general, most issues can be easily resolved by adjusting your settings, updating your browser, or restarting your computer.
💡 It is recommended to share an online classroom test with your student(s) in advance so that they can check their setup before the lesson begins.
If the issues occur on the student's side, try helping them troubleshoot to avoid wasting time during the lesson. On Lessonspace, you can access the Troubleshooting Menu, which allows tutors to see both their and their student's issues during the session, helping to troubleshoot immediately.
